Eulogy for Simione Cagilaba
On behalf of all employees of Shangri-La's Fijian Resort and representing the General Manager, Mr David Hopcroft who unfortunately could not be here, but sends his best wishes and deepest condolences I would like to share with you our memories of this wonderful man.
Simi started work at Shangri-La's Fijian Resort on August 15th 1978 as a part time waiter. He was promoted to Dining room captain in Kalevu restaurant on Dec 30th 1996.
Simi worked in the resort's fine dining restaurant for most of his employment and during this time developed a following of guests who throughout the years had nothing but love and admiration for Simi in discovering his excellent service skills and his gentle caring nature to all those who encountered him, so much so that we even have coffee’s named after him on our menu.
Nothing was ever too much trouble for Simi and throughout his life through his caring and compassionate nature he befriended many people both here and overseas.
His dedication to his role was unquestionable as looking through his employee file you discover at least once every year he was nominated for employee of the month and as for loyalty, this was unquestionable clearly demonstrated in 1985 when he received commendation from the general manager for staying at the resort to continue looking after guests during a cyclone.
Simi was an extremely humble man and on speaking with his wife, Elenoa just a few days ago she mentioned something which we all already knew, that he never got angry, never raised his voice and was a gentleman always.
In meeting Simi and working with him there are lessons which we can all learn from, these are that life’s far too short to be arguing and fighting and we should spend more time being at peace with ourselves and enjoying the company of our families.
As Simi is no doubt looking down on us, may God grant his family strength during this time of sorrow and peace ever lasting with the wonderful memories that he provided to all of us.
